Telechips Announces Joint Cooperation with Sigma Designs
for Targeting Global Set-Top Box Market
Telechips Inc., a leading provider of multimedia and communication semiconductor in fabless fields, today announced Joint Cooperation with Sigma Designs Inc., a global leading company in Smart TV, IoT, Set Top box fields.
Telechips and Sigma Designs are jointly developing and marketing a new series of chips designated as the Alligator and Fox (SMP89xx series). The companies will operate under `TSDS (Telechips Sigma Designs Semiconductor)`, a collaboration brand of Telechips and Sigma Designs. For the jointly developed products, Telechips will provide ultra-low power SoC technology and Sigma Designs will provide its video IP, Set-Top box software technology, and verified HDR technology (HDR 10, HLG, Dolby Vision, others) with accumulated expertise for 15years. Based on the companies` combined strengths, customers of each company will be able to gain access to state-of-the-art SoC solutions with a combination of features and low power that is superior to the competition.
Telechips and Sigma Designs will be able to share the R&D costs, so that this enables Sigma Designs and Telechips to focus their engineering efforts on developing products with product competitiveness in this highly competitive market.
``There have been many changes in the set-top box SoC industry such as Avago`s acquisition of Broadcom and market withdrawal of STMicro.
